Slow Food, founded in 1986, is an international organization whose aim is to protect the pleasures of the table from the homogenization of modern fast food and life. Though a variety of initiatives it promotes gastronomic culture, develops taste education, conserves agricultural biodiversity and protects traditional foods at risk of extinction. It now boasts over 100,000 members in 153 countries.

Slow Food Waitakere Terra Madre Celebration 2012

Terra Madre Day is an opportunity for the entire Slow Food network to celebrate local food and promote sustainable production and consumption to their communities and local decision makers. Thousands of actions in all corners of the world highlight our united vision and the diversity we are striving to maintain.

In the midst of all our Christmas busyness 30 Slow Food Waitakere members, friends and supporters came together  to celebrate Terra Madre Day with good food, good wine,  good company and a lot of laughter.

The inaugural Slow Food Quizz was a great hit!

The team at  Luscious Food Store in Te Atatu cooked up a beautiful organic dinner and were wonderful hosts.

A highlight of our evening was sharing the partnership we are proposing with  Man Alive which aims to help them establish a community garden for their clients and families. 
Man Alive is a leading social service provider committed to making a
real difference in our community through its counselling, family work,
group and youth programme.
