Slow Food, founded in 1986, is an international organization whose aim is to protect the pleasures of the table from the homogenization of modern fast food and life. Though a variety of initiatives it promotes gastronomic culture, develops taste education, conserves agricultural biodiversity and protects traditional foods at risk of extinction. Delegat's Wine Estate tour with Carlos de la Barra

Dear Slow Food members - please join us for this free upcoming event on Saturday 13 February.

Carlos de la Barra (Slow Food Waitakere member and winemaker) will be leading a tour through the Delegat's Wine Estate in Henderson to give us an insight into the workings of contemporary winery. Started in Henderson in 1947, Delegat's is one of New Zealands largest family owned and operated wine making operations. While they have facilities in various regions around New Zealand, the original Henderson site is still in operation.

The afternoon will commence with a tour of the winery, and the opportunity to taste wine from tanks at different stages of production. Following this Carlos will shed light on the many mysteries around the crafting of a bottle of wine. The afternoon will be completed with a tasting of finished wines in the Delegat's winemakers' tasting room.

Where: Delegat's Winery, 172 Hepburn Rd, Henderson (off Great North Rd, half way up Waikumete Cemetery hill - turn left at the end of the road)

When: Saturday 13 February. Meet at the winery at 2pm (visit will be approx 1.5 hours)

Cost: Free (non members are welcome to join us but a $5 donation will be requested to go towards the Terra Madre festival representation by Slow Food members
